Firm, Hydrated, Poreless Skin? I Put the Viral Biodance Bio Collagen Mask to the Test (2025)

Main Image – Biodance

A good face mask is the perfect addition to a cosy night indoors watching films and pampering, and, most of the time, I’m not even that bothered about the results. It’s more a process thing for me.

That’s before I saw the Biodance Bio Collagen Mask (£23.58 at Amazon UK /$19.00 at Biodance US for four masks, although you can buy bigger bundles) circulating on my TikTok FYP for months though.

Promising to plump, hydrate, and minimise pores, this started to sound like the perfect face mask for my combination skin type. I was also intrigued by the seemingly endless videos of skincare fans showing off their dewy results online.

But, after finally deciding to try it, does it actually live up to the claims and the influencer hype? Or is it just another beauty gimmick? And as someone who tends to find sheet masks slightly annoying and uncomfortable, how would I get on?

Read on to find out how Bio Collagen mask worked for me (with before and after pics).

The product details

This particular mask arrived in a dusky pink packet that you rip open at the top like many other sheet masks. It also comes in another variation which is the blue Hydro Cera-nol Real Deep Mask (£25 from Beauty Bay UK /$19.00 from Biodance US for four masks).

The brand describes this face mask as a “Highly concentrated hydrogel mask with 34g of active ingredients for hydration, elasticity, and minimised pores”. It’s formulated with low molecular hyaluronic acid solution, low molecular collagen, and galactomyces ferment filtrate – an antioxidant and probiotic that is a byproduct of the fermentation of Japanese rice wine, or sake, and is said to have anti-ageing properties.

The ingredients do however sound slightly akin to something out of a sci-fi movie.

It’s formulated with 243D ultra-low molecular weight collagen and hyaluronic acid for smoother, firmer skin, and “contains 3 different kinds of probiotics that strengthen the skin’s barrier and prevent skin aging”. It also contains a trusty favourite of mine – niacinamide.

Sounds out of this world.

However, since there are no substantial studies that show applying collagen will actually improve elasticity, I expected this to be more of a hydration shot that makes skin appear fuller and plumper.

The brand says to use this for a minimum of 3 – 4 hours and recommends using it overnight for the best results (feeding into the “morning shed” trend all over TikTok).

However, I really can’t see myself being able to sleep with a face mask on, so I decided to keep it on for around 6 hours (or as long as my patience would let me) during the day before an evening event.

Here are my honest results.

First impressions

I got comfortable (I was wearing this for 6 hours so comfort is key) and ripped open the packaging with ease.

I always sniff a product first and the smell of this mask is very gentle. It doesn’t smell like chemicals or contain any strong fragrances, and it has a silicone jelly-like texture (be careful removing it from the package, I have long nails that made a tear in the top half of the mask, and I was being careful!)

Before applying the mask, I did a morning cleanse using Jordan Samuel’s Matinee Cream Cleanser. I didn’t apply moisturiser since I’ll be wearing a hydrator on my face for the next 6 hours.

The mask comes in two parts – one for the upper part of the face and one for the lower – and it also includes three patches that you can apply under your eyes or on the sides of your nose.

Unlike lots of other masks I’ve tried, this one fit much better because of the separate parts. Another issue I find with face masks is that they slip down my face, but the Biodance mask stayed firmly put and didn’t require any adjusting.

I found getting it out of the packet and the application quite fiddly, I’d suggest turning the packet upside down and letting the mask slide out. It’s very slippery, and the mask itself is very easy to rip or tear.

I carefully applied the top half before applying the bottom half (I didn’t use the smaller patches), trying to avoid making too many movements, just placing them over my face.

The first thing I noticed is that it’s immediately cooling and soothing, and it stays in place pretty well. However, I still found it slightly annoying to wear and when I put my glasses back on they steamed up from the moisture!

The process

I planned to leave the mask on for 6 hours during the day, but I struggled with having something on my face for that amount of time so I removed it after around 4.5 hours.

Over the hours, it stayed in place but I needed to adjust it a couple of times around my eyes because it was getting in the way of my vision – and my glasses kept slipping down my nose!

You also have to be very careful not to tear it if you have longer nails, and even a slight tug will definitely pull it apart. Other sheet masks like Garnier’s Moisture Bomb sheet mask are easier to use and the potential for tearing the Biodance mask was a little bit stressful for me, especially because of the price.

It was easy to drink my coffee while wearing, though, which is a huge plus for me.

After an hour, I touched the mask and it felt dry. The serum seemed to have already been absorbed into my skin but the mask was still a milky white colour. It didn’t stick to all of the contours on my face, but it did cling where it mattered most.

After around two hours, it started to turn clear. It takes around three hours for the mask to go completely clear and, if you like, this is when you can take the mask off or you can leave it on for longer.

You can also see that the mask hasn’t turned clear where there is an overlap, however, it’s only the top part that isn’t clear because it didn’t come into contact with my skin.

My results

Honestly, I wasn’t blown away by the results.

As you can see below, I still had noticeable pores. However, my skin did feel hydrated and, again, you can clearly see this in the photo below. I would say my skin looked slightly brighter, too.

I can’t see any clear plumping effects but I was intrigued to see how my skin looked and felt the next day.

How long they lasted

Firstly, when I used my regular CeraVe Moisturising Lotion that evening before applying makeup, my skin felt very hydrated.

I also felt like my makeup applied better, I didn’t have any dry patches, and my skin looked slightly glowier than usual.

When I took my makeup off that night and applied moisturiser, my skin looked and felt soft and moisturised – slightly more so than usual.

The next day, I inspected my skin and it definitely felt more hydrated and looked a bit brighter. I wouldn’t say my pores looked reduced, but I was pleasantly surprised with how healthy my skin felt.

I would say this could be a good product to use before a night out or event, and possibly with regular use it would make more of a difference to my skin.

What other users are saying

Like me, not everyone is sold on their results with this mask. One user on TikTok writes “This mask clogs my pores, I’ve used it 3 times already and each time, the next day I had small pimples and my skin is lumpy”.

And others are commenting on the price, “Why is it sooo expensive!” writes on user on TikTok, and another says “Seeing the price of that mask, I WOULD DEFINITELY keep it all night.”

However, over on Reddit the reviews for this mask are pretty glowing. One user writes “Run and don’t walk getting these.. my face looks plump and lifted.. I left it on overnight”.

Another says “This is the only mask I would wear on a flight because I have SUPER sensitive skin and it doesn’t irritate my skin. It also stays relatively in place and leave [sic] my skin really nice as soon as I land! I buy mine at Olive Young global and they always have a bunch of sales.”

A word of warning though: There are tons of fake versions of this product online. Be sure to purchase from a reputable website and check the ingredients.

@lisa.beautify

When I was at Olive Young, Koreans were bussing about @Biodance Collagen Mask like excited bees! Because this mask went viral, many copies are out there, so make sure to get the real deal. This mask has 34 g of pure essence, unlike other masks, which are soaked in essence. All the active ingredients get absorbed by your skin, which results in glowy skin, and if you wondered if it’s safe to use this mask overnight – it is! It improves skin moisture, skin elasticity, and decreases pore size. But what sets Biodance’s collagen mask apart from others on the market? The Biodance Collagen mask uses the naturally driven thickening agents algin and agar. Other popular masks use PEG-100 stearate, which is cheaper, can irritate your skin and cause acne! The secret to Biodance’s perfectly fitting mask is its ideal weight of 34g full of active ingredients and high-quality 243Da fish collagen. Overall value for money

If I’d experienced more noticeable results, I’d be more likely to repurchase this mask. However, I’m not convinced it’s worth the price tag.

If you’re looking for a shot of hydration, the Garnier Moisture Bomb masks are great.

They’re much more affordable (£3.49 from Boots UK /$7.40 from Walmart US)and accessible, and they work pretty well. They also have a huge range including vitamin C masks, glow-boosting masks, probiotic masks, and niacinamide masks – among lots of others.

The takeaway

I found this quite annoying to wear, in all honesty. If you are able to feel comfortable with a silicone-feeling mask on your face overnight then I salute you, because a few hours was long enough for me to begin to feel sufficiently irritated by it.

I much prefer a clay mask that you apply, wear for 15 minutes, and wash off. I’m also more likely to buy the Garnier Moisture Bomb mask rather than the Biodance one, for both ease of wear and price point.

While I’ve seen some amazing results online from this and my skin looked and felt hydrated, it was no more so than when I apply a heavier serum or moisturiser. I didn’t notice tighter pores, and I also didn’t notice any plumping effects.

The price point and the annoyance of wearing the mask for literal hours has put me off using this product again – if I’d have seen more noticeable results I might have considered it.

It’s not for me, but I do think it’s a nice product to use if you’re relaxing at home on the day before an event.
