BRAZIL — Emergence of native population identity and rights: An Indigenous woman attends the annual Free Earth camp on April 8, 2025, where Brazil’s Indigenous communities discuss rights, territorial protection and their role in COP30, which will take place in November for the first time in the Amazon of Brasilia, Brazil. Thousands of Indigenous people marched in Brazil’s capital, demanding that the state guarantee and expand their rights to traditional lands as part of the solution to the world’s climate crisis.
Leaders and members of the Indigenous community plan to attend COP30, hoping for the chance to promote land demarcation and to secure other Indigenous rights in all Amazon countries. They are also pressing for a greater role during the event.

A daughter of Haitian immigrants, Rep. Love was born in Brooklyn in 1975, a year after her parents fled the Duvalier regime in Haiti. Not a fan of President Donald Trump during his first term, she rebuked him for his disparaging comments about Haiti and Haitians.
LONDON — Seeking government protection, ‘for old times’ sake’: Prince Harry gestures as he arrives at the High Court in England, April 8, 2025. The Duke of Sussex seeks to win back his government-funded protection in an appeals case after losing his court fight last year. His attorney on Tuesday told appeals court judges that Prince Harry had been treated unfairly since February 2020, when his bodyguard detail was revoked after he resigned from being a working member of the British Royal Family and moved to the United States.
Prince Harry’s attorneys assert that the government panel’s decision to give the Duke “bespoke” security, customized for an as-needed basis, demonstrated it had failed to follow its own policy and to complete a needs assessment.
